We don’t think the Skylight Frame does a perfect job of representing images. In our time with the frame, we found that its compression software added visible artifacts, softened images and made certain hues look unnatural. That said, its 1280x800 pixel LCD did hold up well against similarly priced rivals, even if its 255-nit brightness is a long way below the Aura Carver. also, its convenient to add members to the frame account so anyone can add pictures from their devices. you don't need one central device.
Another limitation of this frame is it is landscape mode only. You can load portrait photos in with pillar boxes on the sides, but Aura has a nice feature where they will smart pair two portraits at the same time so there’s no dead space.Photo Arrangement. This may be a user error, but as far as I can tell - the frame decides how photos are arranged on the screen based on some criteria. My guess is a combination of resolution and orientation. Either way, nearly all pictures I tested with appear split-screen and unrelated. This makes for less of a picture frame viewing experience and more of a slide show kind of experience. This frame also has the ability to play sound and videos which is somewhat interesting, although videos seem to play at around 10fps. Unlike Aura’s frames, Pix-Star lets you choose which files and folders to include in slideshows, play videos and audio, start slideshows from a connected USB/SD card, and much more.
Overall, I would highly recommend this as a gift or for personal use. It’s definitely a premium product, but the design is intelligent and worth investing in if you can.
the touch bar on top is handy but a touch screen may have been nicer and allowed for more usability. The Aura Carver Luxe Digital Photo Frame is a perfect device to share your memories with your loved ones and your loved ones to share memories with you. It works like this, if you own the device, you can share it with your friends and family by extending invitations, upon accepting them, they can add pictures which then will show up on your Digital Photo Frame at home (!). You will get notifications that they added pictures and can decide which ones stay or not; although I would say you’d usually trust the judgement of the people you shared the device with (anyways, you’ll have full control of the device and can remove their pictures if desired). Aura doesn’t compromise on the quality of the frames, and the most significant difference is between the resolutions. You will get a much clearer presentation from Mason Luxe at 2048×1536 resolution. You want a high-res screen: An 800p resolution is fairly standard at this price, but high sharpness can give subjects craggy edges.
People who own boxes of undisplayed photos: Pair a digital photo frame with a scanner or a mobile scanning app to preserve and display photos that have been sitting in boxes for years. The last minor annoyance was the screen will automatically go into sleep mode in dark light situations. This is kind of annoying because we have the frame on our mantle in the family room and now that it’s fall and the sun sets sooner, the frame is off when we are spending time in the family room. This can be worked around by setting active hours, which I set to 7am to 12am.The only downside to Aura Mason Luxe in comparison to Carver Luxe is that you won’t get as much detail in landscape mode. Older relatives: With a digital photo frame, older family members no longer need to figure out how to print photos from the family group chat or their own smartphone, and they don’t have to find more table space for all the photos they’ve collected. A frame can hold hundreds of photos, and loved ones can easily send more to the device. The Aura Mason Luxe brings a more robust system where you can switch between landscape and portrait mode while still enjoying superior clarity. If you’re not really planning on using the landscape option, and need a portrait option, then going with Mason Luxe is the only real choice here.
