About this deal

The character of Olga da Polga is herself based on a guinea pig belonging to Michael Bond's daughter Karen. From the author of Paddington Bear, Michael Bond’s loveable guinea-pig has been charming readers for over 50 years. The typical plot of each story is that something fairly ordinary happens to Olga, and she gives her animal friends a wildly exaggerated version of events, subsequently revealed to be untrue by what the humans say. The stories and the characters, especially Olga are so wholesome and believable and sweet, with an old school charm. In each chapter, Olga Da Polga gets up to new adventures while making friends with the other Sawdust pets.

Kuvitus on ihana ja marsun elämän käänteitähän tässä käsitellään Olga da Polga -nimisen elikon näkökulmasta. His excellent book, "The Proper Care of Guinea Pigs" is the benchmark for owners and breeders, and also some vets. Our Non-Fiction Range includes: Academic, Photography, Audio books, Business, Cook Books, Craft Books, Health and Fitness Books, Mind, Body, Spirit (Tarot). This collection was so popular when it was first published that it sparked a host of sequels, all of which you can be sure this reviewer will track down, and read with a big fat smile on her face. The only thing I had against it was that each chapter was like a short story without any over-arching plot so it didn’t really go anyway - my daughter wasn’t at all bothered by this though! So yeah, I was really looking forward to this one, because I love guinea pigs (and other rodents as well) and I just love it when books are about them. Olga da Polga is both the story of guinea pig Olga da Polga’s new life with the Sawdust family and thirteen complete, stand-alone stories disguised as chapters. Ei välttis ääneenluettavaa matskua, koska ei mitään isoja mahdollisuuksia muuhun onomatopoetiikkaan kuin marsun aika taajaan vikinään.In the edition reviewed here, from 2011, there are humorous pen and watercolour wash illustrations by Catherine Rayner, who reports that she herself loved the stories when she was a child. In 2022, the BBC commissioned 13 episodes of a live-action TV series of Olga da Polga for CBeebies, featuring Julie Wilson Nimmo and Greg Hemphill. It isn't long before Olga finds out - and the lucky newcomers are just in time to hear her very first poetry recital! From the start it is clear that the stories comprise not only fantasy, but also accurate observation about how guinea pigs behave, and are cared for.

Her garden companions soon discover that Olga loves an audience and from the moment she arrives she tells them stories about her wild and exciting adventures. Whether she's Olga the explorer, Olga the prizewinner, or Olga the storyteller, she is always Olga da Polga!Applicability of cancellation rights: Legal rights of cancellation under the Distance Selling Regulations available for UK or EU consumers do not apply to certain products and services. Lots of exciting things are happening in the Sawdust household, and Olga da Polga is right in the thick of them.
