About this deal

The engineering behind making the cars and suiting them to the driver's needs, the physics following getting off the accelerator and reaching top speed, why you don't overtake on straights unless you get a good exit from a corner etc.

Personally, I don't care to repeatedly hear how a man who earns more than I could ever dream of, continually wasted money on yachts etc. Matt Phillips, publishing director for non-fiction at Bonnier Books UK, said: “Everyone dreams of being a Formula One driver, but what’s it really like? And as it happens, Santa popped it under my tree and before the Boxing Day turkey curry had even been cooked, I’d already started it. The full-length, in-depth and intimate autobiography from Jenson Button, one of Britain's greatest ever racing drivers. The requirements of fitness needed to be a Formula One driver and the trials and tribulations (often with the trademark Button wit) that he went through to achieve what he has are very well put.

At 344 pages, the book is split into 3 parts – Part One is Jenson’s early childhood years from karting, Formula Ford, F3 and his test shoot with WilliamsF1. There were so many different ones and they all had that stretched-out beauty, reaching upward and outward, or just standing around, all the proportions were perfect. Jenson does occasionally try to inject some of the technical aspects of down force, double diffuser and blown exhausts and his own views and driver preferences. He goes through his career up until the point he decides to retire, taking in his final swan song at Monaco. I knew a lot of his F1 stuff - from 2005-onwards, his Championship winning year, the McLaren years, because I've been there, seen that.
