About this deal

There were a few (very small) newly-added bits that I wanted to read more about, but they weren’t the focus and didn’t get the time they deserved.

One can tell that Grimly was inspired by the appearances of the actors who originally portrayed the characters, but he made sure to put his own twist upon them to give them a whole new look. While there were some really cool full-page illustrations in here, they definitely could’ve inserted more here and there, even just smaller illustrations along the bottom of the pages or near the margins. This deluxe novelization of the cult classic Halloween tale Hocus Pocus, illustrated by renowned artist Gris Grimly, is a must-have for fans of the film.

The pacing was snappy, and I loved the dialogue; this was the perfect book to read in preparation for Halloween! He lights the Black Flame Candle, accidentally releasing a coven of malicious witches, the infamous Sanderson sisters, from the afterlife.

But on Halloween night, when he lights The Black Flame Candle, he summons the evil Sanderson sisters back from the dead. I really loved this illustrated take on a classic; it was the perfect shot of nostalgia to prepare for Halloween! It's a decent novelization, almost word for word and scene for scene, except there were a few added parts to give more depth to the characters. Between these, I would have liked to have seen more smaller illustrations, as there are times when it seems that you turn quite a few pages before you come across the next one.

Although a black cat attempts to stop Max, he recklessly lights a strange-looking candle to show that he doesn't believe in superstitions. Their excitement goes through the roof with the book in hand, and next thing they know, they’re utterly enchanted as they flip through the pages.

The dust jacket features an illustration by Grimly, but when you take this off, you see that the covers of the book are in a lovely red colour with a design in black, making it look like an older book. And there were definitely some moments that I would’ve wanted illustrations of but didn’t get, yet other illustrations in the book that either felt repetitive or that I wasn’t crazy about.Relive the classic Halloween film Hocus Pocus with an Illustrated Novelization that retells the story alongside stunning original artwork from Gris Grimly! The book is a hefty, handsome tome - perfect for your fall coffee table decor, even if you don't choose to read it.

It was just very “guy gets the girl and everything along with it” and it was awkward how it centered the relationship in the final moments. As it was, I saw only one tiny thing that hints to more going on with Winifred than one saw in the film, and even that was barely a blip on the reader's radar. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. GRIS GRIMLY is an award-winning illustrator best known for his "macabre" yet humorous books for children and young adults. Some of the illustrations also left much to be desired and could’ve been more detailed in my opinion. Es como si hubieran copiado el guión de Hocus Pocus y le hubieran dado una forma de prosa, más literario.
