About this deal

But a galette is something that I do probably more often than those other fancy tarts, because they're just so quick. Though it may not be the first thing to cross your mind, some of the most satisfying simple baking recipes are actually savory as opposed to sweet. I know for some people, it can be really up and down, but personally it's just been such a great experience on there.

For those of us who are fans of The Great British Baking Show, Ebuehi was a quarter finalist in 2016, and it's clear she is top of class as a baker--both in skills and imagination. Just that sweetness of the plantain against the cheesy and anise seed fennel filling just works absolutely well. Benjamina Ebuehi: But I really wanted to just remind people that the steps and the processes to get there are just as, if not more, important, and you can learn more from the processes sometimes more than what you get at the end. Going through the ritual of bringing out the measuring scales, pouring out flour, whipping up the eggs, stirring the batter and impatiently slicing into warm cake is a beautiful thing that deserves to be enjoyed all year round no matter the day, season or occasion.

She competed as a contestant on seventh series of The Great British Bake Off in 2016 and finished as a quarter finalist, impressing judges with her calm demeanour and fresh, modern flavours.

In A Good Day to Bake: Simple Baking Recipes for Every Mood, Ebuehi shares the creative, brightly flavored recipes she was known for on Bake Off and in her first book, The New Way to Cake, but with one big difference: She wrote most of it during lockdown in 2020. Benjamina's bridging spices, herbs with sweet and all things baked is wonderfully portraited in this book!

Croissants are sliced in half horizontally, then layered in a baking dish with the custard and roughly chopped dates. Completely stunning cookbook, though – the photos are gorgeous, the cover is great and on brand with her previous book (but in hardback this time! Every day could do with a bit more slowing down, a little more stirring, kneading, folding and peering into the oven watching bread puff up like magic. Such a great use of slightly stale croissants, I've got this recipe earmarked as something to make for Easter brunch next month. In her latest book, A Good Day to Bake, Ebuehi offers more recipes that celebrate flavour and gives home bakers further ways to bring calm into their kitchens. And even though I think baking is so precise, complex, and labor-intensive, I’m pretty tempted by Benjamina Ebuehi’s combinations of savoury and sweet. I wrote most of this book during a strange time of lockdowns and the world being flipped on its head. This one, too, adapted well to artificial sweeteners, and I used sugar free dark chocolate in the ganache.A Good Day to Bake is full of 70 sweet and savory baking recipes for any day of the week, led by flavor. One thing I noticed during the early stages of that time was just how many people started baking, who had maybe never baked before. My baking inspiration - I was so thrilled to see a second book from Benjamina and this one mixes bread, biscuits, and cakes (my cake Bible is still her first book - “A new way to cake” should be on everyone’s shelf! Benjamina Ebuehi: And sometimes I said that it sounds really cheesy, just appreciate the small things, but I think it just makes us more fully aware of our surroundings, of what we're doing, of why we're doing what we're doing.

Benjamina Ebuehi : Honestly, I feel like everyone should because yeah, the Instagram community is absolutely wonderful. I look for cook books like this, unusual recipes you won't find in other recipe books and ones that include some 'proper' ingredients, fruit, nuts, vegetables and spices rather than all chocolate and icing. I used Ovaltine instead of Horlicks because I am trying to avoid palm oil, so mine was a bit darker. Delicious galette but next time I'm going to add more carrots since I felt it was a bit thin and wasn't substantial enough to eat as a meal even with a salad along side.I made these for lunch one Sunday and my daughter insisted on saving one so that she could take it in her lunch the next day. If there's a downside, it's that some of the ingredients are difficult to find for those of us in the US who live outside of major urban areas. You want it just to not overpower the flavor of the spices, so something just mellow to bring it all together. Lots of yummy goodies in here, but I think I prefer Ebuehi's first book as the variety in cakes were more up my street.
