About this deal

They discover there are tumble-down shacks on the island, and lots of strange holes leading down into the ground. Spine is leaning and sunned, cover is slightly soiled and faded, corners are bumped, front endpapers are cracked on the hinge but holding, and there is a short pencil inscription on the front free endpaper. I love these lesser known Enid Blyton books although now a bit dated, they were all my favourites and the Island of Adventure seemed so grown up to a 7 year old in 1952, read in the Stanley Hotel in Nairobi. Like his late father, Philip has a gift of befriending any type of land-based animal he comes across, and always has a veritable zoo of small animals somewhere within his clothes.

Jack and Lucy-Ann turn up again and Philip asks her if the Trents can come to stay at Craggy Tops (an ambush if ever I saw one) and she says she’ll telephone Aunt Polly to ask. The house is owned by Phillip and Dinah's uncle Jocelyn and overworked aunt Polly, who are helped by a handyman named Joe. She also loves her adopted "parents" Bill and Mrs Mannering very much, is Dinah's best friend, and quite fond of Philip. I did wonder, though, why Bill said it would be foolish to go climbing down wells and through underground passages in the dead of night, and that they should wait until morning.Strange lights on the nearby mysterious island leads to the four's first adventure inside an abandoned copper mine and a network of secret undersea tunnels. Born in London in 1897, Enid lived much of her life in Buckinghamshire and loved dogs, gardening and the countryside. Jo-Jo is a cold, calculating and intelligent man who plays the ‘stupid servant’ role beautifully so he can stay at Craggy-Tops without anyone suspecting he is up to anything.

Jack and Kiki find themselves following the others, who are kidnapped and taken to the strange country of Tauri Hessia; but he finds help with a circus. There are literally thousands of birds there, and Jack swears he caught sight of a Great Auk, thought to be extinct. Registered office address: Unit 34 Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EF. There they meet Joe, a friendly man who helps Philip's widowed mother Allison, at her Art Gallery, and Philip's sister, Dinah. I am being deliberately vague when describing this as a 1980s film as there are two dates online for it.One last thing — Mrs Mannering's first ever words to her future husband, Bill, are rather amusing from an adult perspective. The Adventure books would have given the older children something exciting to delve into, and certainly seem to be a fore-runner of some of the Famous Five's later escapades. Top, Tail and Fore edge with Age discolouration, Front Board loose from fep exposing netting, Back Board a little loose at top edge.

On top of that he is portrayed quite badly – believing in “things” wandering at night, being quite mad as well as slow, lazy, stupid and rolling his eyes a lot. He'd developed scarlet fever during the school term and had missed a lot of school work, so he and a few others are staying at Mr Roy's (one of the teachers) to be crammed. It is well written and dramatic but it's also funny because of the arguments and mistakes they make. However, his seeming simple-mindedness is all an act to prevent people from seeing him for what he really is — a clever, scheming villain.Rhys-Davies continues to play the Bond villain, explaining his entire operation and plans to Bill because it won’t matter, he’s going to die. I have both movies, “Island of Adventure” and “Castle of Adventure”, but only watched them once, because they simply are not nearly as good as the books. Original green cloth with title on spine, colored frontispiece printed on glossy paper, and many illustrations throughout the text.
