About this deal

The murkier side of films and celebrity is one of the themes of the book with a tragedy from years ago lying at the heart of the mystery. An absolute treat of a read with all the ingredients of a vintage murder mystery: a country house, mysterious dead bodies and three actresses all keen to catch the killer. One of the plot points was a little hard to believe: that an actor could just change their name and no one would recognize them for years even though they had continued to act.

But no - guess what happens during this night of being trapped in with suspects and building tension.Rosalind receiving death threats, a missing Casting Director and a hit-and-run death of one of the film's stars prompts another Three Dahlias investigation, to discover whether the events are connected and who is to blame. After the events at Aldermere, Posy Rosalind and Caro are trying to fit into their new roles but someone has murder in mind and it looks like Rosalind could be in their sights! It was lovely to see Posy really coming into her own and being the leading Dahlia in the story as well as in the fictional world of Dahlia Lively. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my review. The present cast includes some famous male actors, Kit Lewis, a black actor who is cast as DI Johnnie Swain, and Tristan Haworth, an aristocratic type, who Dahlia's wealthy Uncle Sol would love her to marry, which Dahlia has no intention of doing. The author of the bestselling former Waterstones Thriller of the Month The Three Dahlias spins another fiendishly clever vintage mystery, as the three sleuthing actresses reunite to solve a murder on a movie set. But the film set soon turns sinister when Rosalind receives death threats and is nearly killed when the prop knife on set is swapped for a real knife.

But when Rosalind suffers two almost fatal near misses on set it's clear that there is the sender of the notes means to do more than just upset her, and so when one of the cast members is killed it's time for the Dahlias to do what they do best (after acting of course) - find a killer. There's, literally, a cast of supporting characters and potential suspects for the Dahlias to get to know and form opinions about. Ever since reading The Three Dahlias last year I have been eager to read the next instalment in the series.

It's always a little nervewracking heading into the second book of a series when the first book set the standard so high but I needn't have worrried, we are.

As a death rocks the production, the Dahlias turn sleuth, with a storm raging, there is more murder and they are cut off from help. As in the previous book, there are plenty of red herrings and our trip get upto plenty of mischief, but there is no doubt that only the 'Three Dahlias' can solve the mystery as the body count rises and their own lives are all put in peril! Thank you to the publisher, Little Brown Book group for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. And this time, with a storm raging, the river flooded and the bridge washed out, there are no police to rely on so it's up to the three Dahlias to stop a murderer in their tracks. But things take a nightmare turn when a prop weapon is replaced with the real thing - with almost fatal consequences for her fellow Dahlia, Rosalind King. The relationship between the three leading ladies (The Three Dahlias) is well observed, each bringing their different strengths to the investigation. I enjoyed the first book in the series and loved coming back to some of my favorite characters… I will be waiting with bated breath for the third installment.
